- 9th Annual Tobermory Extreme Adventure
August 15, 2020 - August 19, 2020
11:30 am - 1:30 pm
Join us for our 9th Annual Tobermory Extreme Adventure in Bruce Peninsula National Park!
This trek follows the iconic Bruce Trail on a 5-day hiking and backcountry camping expedition through Bruce Peninsula National Park. The park is located just outside of Tobermory, about four hours north of Toronto on the Niagara Escarpment. Part of a World Biosphere Reserve, this area boasts a huge diversity of wildlife, plants, and rock formations. Along the trail, you will experience amazing cliff-top views of Georgian Bay, sea caves, and ancient forests. Some of the sights along the trail are simply unforgettable, like the infamous ‘grotto’, a beautiful swimming hole located in a cavern where the Niagara Escarpment opens up to the aquamarine coloured waters of Georgian Bay.
This adventure is a 5 Day 4 Night Backcountry camping adventure on the stunningly beautiful Bruce Trail, that unites adventurous type 1s as they step outside of their comfort zones, guided by the most experienced leadership team for T1D’s outdoor education in the world. Our Leadership team knows every square inch of this trail and has guided type 1 diabetics on thousands of kilometres of trails across Canada. This program is supported by T1D mentors who have hiked the Bruce Trail each year with ICD and will help teach you how to pack your bags, set up camp safely, and cook amazing meals in the woods. Our team is fully prepared to help with diabetes management during this adventure: carbs, sites, troubleshooting, etc. Diabetes management is completely supported and gets easier with each step taken down the trail.
Since we will be carrying all our supplies on our backs, it is VERY important to pack smart and pack light. We will provide a detailed packing list prior to this event. We are able to support additional needs for backpacks, high-end sleeping bags and head lamps upon request but proper hiking shoes/boots, rain jacket, athletic wear are required. Please reach out so we can help you be prepared for this adventure!
Our Leaders: This program has experienced leaders who are living full lives with type 1 diabetes. They love to mentor and share the skills and habits that have helped them reach their dreams. Our ICD leadership team has lead more trips for type 1s than anyone else in the world.
Leadership development candidates will also have the opportunity to stick around and assist with our Intro to Adventure program, taking place from August 20th to 23rd!
