Experience the Power of ICD Workshops. At I Challenge Diabetes, we collaborate with leaders across the diabetes and health communities to tackle real-world challenges and empower individuals to thrive with Type 1 Diabetes.
Our diverse, hands-on workshops combine education, adventure, and teamwork, helping participants build confidence, learn new skills, and understand how their bodies respond in motion.
From hiking and skiing to rock climbing, parkour, canoeing, and even roller coasters at Canada’s Wonderland, every experience is a chance to connect, learn, and grow. View our upcoming Workshops here!
No prior experience necessary. Events are open to anyone who has type 1, their friends, and family!
ICD Adventures have experienced leaders who are living full lives with type 1 diabetes. They love to mentor and share the skills and habits that have helped them reach their dreams. Our ICD leadership team has led more trips for type 1s than anyone else in the world.
And the benefits don’t just stop at this one adventure. If we are successful in learning how to manage diabetes in the midst of these extremely challenging physical and mental endeavours, it greatly increases the chances we will be able to stand up to the obstacles we encounter in our daily lives. “We have seen huge accomplishments over the years with impacts that last a lifetime!” – Chris Jarvis, ICD Founder & Executive Director
Empowering Youth Through Sport, Adventure & Shared Experience. At our Sport and Adventure Camps, leaders and peers living with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) come together to create an immersive, empowering environment. Through shared challenges, teamwork, sport and outdoor skill development, youth develop independence and self-confidence, all while surrounded by others who understand the routines and responsibilities of diabetes management.
Mentors lead by example, openly sharing their personal strategies for staying healthy, the obstacles they face, and how they overcome them. By reducing stigma and fostering open conversation, they help campers see that diabetes doesn’t define their limits – it expands them. Learn more here!
“I could not have imagined how significant 5 days at camp could be for a person. Her confidence has absolutely sky-rocketed!” – ICD Camp Parent
ICD retreats involve overnight lodging, engaging skill development activities and team building opportunities. Coaching is provided within a robust, collaborative peer group, tailored to suit a variety of interest areas: Adventure, Leadership, Skills, and Diabetes Management.
ICD has run over 100 overnight retreats for people with T1D so far and served thousands across the whole age spectrum! Most people come away feeling as though they had not just achieved something during their retreat, but that they have been able to reframe their diabetes and themselves in a very positive light.
