Steve Wilson has been navigating the challenges of living with Type 1 Diabetes for 42 years. Throughout this journey, he has experienced both the highs and lows that come with managing this condition. However, his path took a transformative turn when he began utilizing Medtronic’s technology.

“In 2017, I attended a diabetes education session and decided to go with Medtronic. I have been very pleased with Medtronic’s technical support and advancements in the sensors and insulin pump,” says Steve. “I currently have the MiniMed 780G insulin pump with the extended seven-day infusion sets and reservoirs. I also recently upgraded to the Guardian 4 sensors that require much less calibrations and I have really benefited from Medtronic’s auto mode for adjusting to changes in my carb inputs and activity levels.”

With the help of Medtronic, Steve has improved his time in range (3.9 – 10.0 mmol/L) to 88% and the alert before low feature has allowed him to manage his lows during exercise to get his time below range (3.9 mmol/L) to 1%. “Medtronic has given me more time to focus on my overall health and enabled me to enjoy activities like curling,“ says Steve.

Steve learned about I Challenge Diabetes (ICD) through his daughter Emilee, who also lives with T1D. Although he has been involved with ICD for five years, he is excited to be leading his first event this fall!

“I enjoy curling,” says Steve. “I look forward to hosting a local Waterloo region curling event” November 9, 2024 from 9:30am to 1:30pm at Ayr Curling and welcome up to 32 youth (10+) and adults living with T1D who want to learn more about curling and connect with the community.

Utilizing his years of experience, Steve is excited to grow as a leader in the community. “A future goal of mine is to stay as active as I possibly can and start to share my experiences with T1D, especially for adults interested in learning more about balancing the challenges of T1D!”

Medtronic Diabetes Canada is a corporate sponsor of ICD programming.
