Paige (pictured left, with ICD staffer Mila) has been living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) for the last five years. When she was newly diagnosed, one of the biggest challenges was the constant monitoring required to consistently keep her in target range. Paige was fortunate to learn about Tandem Diabetes Care, which has greatly supported her diabetes management.
“Honestly, I don’t know how I would manage without my Tandem pump,” Paige says. ”The integration with Dexcom and Control-IQ makes managing T1D a breeze.”
Paige’s family first heard about I Challenge Diabetes through a Facebook group. She attended her first program nearly five years ago and has been coming back ever since. When asked how many events she has attended, Paige replies, “I have lost count!“
ICD camps have been a big motivator for Paige: “Attending (ICD) camp has provided many positive opportunities for me. Not only has it allowed me to be part of a group that shares the same issues and understands life with T1D, but it has helped me to develop as a leader.”
This year, Paige attended camp as a mentor. “I think my favourite activity is helping the younger campers and watching them develop their abilities. It has helped me develop new skills that I will use for the rest of my life.” As she looks to the future, her goal is to be one of the first all-star cheerleaders to show other T1Ds that they can achieve anything they put their mind to. GO PAIGE!
