ICD Adventures have experienced leaders who are living full lives with type 1 diabetes. They love to mentor and share the skills and habits that have helped them reach their dreams. Our ICD leadership team has led more trips for type 1s than anyone else in the world.
And the benefits don’t just stop at this one adventure. If we are successful in learning how to manage diabetes in the midst of these extremely challenging physical and mental endeavours, it greatly increases the chances we will be able to stand up to the obstacles we encounter in our daily lives. Coaches and peers with T1D who share the same tasks and obstacles to success, create an immersive environment to empower growth, develop independence, self-confidence and communication skills for youth as the routines they are required to live with are now all around them.
Coaches share their stories and demonstrate openly what they do themselves to stay on top of their health, the challenges they face, and how they overcome obstacles, reduce the stigma and discrimination of managing diabetes. Learn more here!

ICD retreats involve overnight lodging, engaging skill development activities and team building opportunities. Coaching is provided within a robust, collaborative peer group, tailored to suit a variety of interest areas: Adventure, Leadership, Skills, and Diabetes Management.
ICD has run over 100 overnight retreats for people with T1D so far and served thousands across the whole age spectrum! Most people come away feeling as though they had not just achieved something during their retreat, but that they have been able to reframe their diabetes and themselves in a very positive light. We have worked hard to collaborate with many in the industry to discuss problems, develop strategies and put them to the test. We go into our group programs with confidence and make it safe and easy to pick up new skills that you might not have the opportunity to on your own!
Our types of workshop events are wide and diverse as we participate in exhilarating experiences as a group to discern how they effect our sugars – hiking, running, skiing, biking, adventure races, swimming, canoeing, parkour, rock climbing – even riding the coasters at Canada’s Wonderland. See all 2025 Workshops here!
No prior experience necessary. Events are open to anyone who has type 1, their friends, and family!
Our Diabuddies speakers present strategies that helped them reach the top of their field in sport, business, academia, and the arts, illustrating a growth mindset and resilience as they explore the problem solving skills required to overcome life with a chronic illness. While providing fundamental education about diabetes, the stories broaden to reach all students and empower a community of inclusion.
Diabuddies aims to increase awareness about T1D across Canada and showcase that even with a chronic disease, a healthy, successful life can be achieved with the right support. Learn more or book your Diabuddies speaker now!
